Our Story

9Tea3 is an extraordinary brand like no other. The genesis of this Black-owned tea company finds its roots in a bodacious brew where it’s all about staying a steep above the rest.  Infusing elements of friendship, wellness, culture, and exquisite taste with a dash of hip-hop, R&B and soul, founders, Cyd Lockett and Hassahn Liggins (who met in 1993 on the campus of DePaul University) have created what they like to call, “A Whole Leafstyle™.”

Each 9Tea3 blend is cultivated with the culture in mind and influenced by artists and songs of an era of hip-hop that ushered in the success and significance of legends like The Notorious B.I.G., Tupac Shakur, Wu-Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, Snoop Dogg, OutKast, and slew of others. Like the genre, the brand’s teas are innovative and transformative.

It was all a dream, this team used to read WordUp magazine and now Cyd, Hassahn, and Stephanie lend their individual talents to this extraordinary common purpose. With backgrounds in accounting, marketing, design, journalism, customer service, and the music industry, this team not only has a myriad of skills, but they have an unbreakable bond.
